One of my specialties is image optimization - Why use four images (normal, hover, active, visited) when you could use none, and render everything in CSS3 and HTML5? This is an example for how to use multiple background images (gradients count as images) and arrange them for interesting effects. I also added some Javascript to increment the value of the button rather than display a separate box for its +1 count.
